Alejandro Galván is a painter who lives and works in Nezahualcóyotl (Neza), one of the most populated and dense areas of Mexico City. It has a complex history of governmental neglect, violence and marginalization and at the same time houses a proud community with a strong sense of togetherness, the warm home and heart of the working class. These dualities are visualized in the artist’s large-scale paintings of watercolor, ink, gouache and charcoal on wooden panels which make reference cityscapes that include pre-Hispanic culture and Mexican mythology combined with Catholic imagery, manga inspired figures together with medieval bestiaries and newspaper coverage of disturbing scenes next to intimate portraits of the artist’s family, female figures important to him and his neighbors.

Alejandro Galván (1990, México) es un pintor que reside y trabaja en Nezahualcóyotl (Neza), una de las zonas más pobladas y densas de la ciudad que tiene una compleja historia de abandono gubernamental, violencia y marginación y, al mismo tiempo, alberga una comunidad orgullosa con un fuerte sentido de unión, el hogar cálido y el corazón de la clase trabajadora. Estas dualidades son visibles en las pinturas a gran escala del artista realizadas con acuarela, tinta, gouache y carboncillo sobre paneles de madera que hacen referencia a los paisajes urbanos que incluyen la cultura prehispánica y la mitología mexicana combinadas con el imaginario católico, figuras inspiradas en el manga junto a bestiarios medievales y cobertura periodística de escenas inquietantes junto a retratos íntimos de la familia del artista, figuras femeninas importantes para él y sus vecinos.
